New year, New everything!!

I have spent the greater part of this year calm and collected but with the new year here there are plenty of changes headed our way. Career choices for both me and Limon. Adriansito potty training and hopefully starting preschool in the fall. We have officially decided to get married in upcoming 2012 and Limon's car is not working very well. Just add in school, bills and cleaning and I need a stress reliever and fast. On a side note Packers made the playoffs so we shall see what will happen on Sunday.

I have to admit that we have been splurging a lot with our money... eating out and buying things that are totally unnecessary. We really need to cut back.. but it's hard with lemonhead he likes the finer things in life and lately I haven't been so disciplined with my spending. So for the new year my resolution is to save, save and save some more. I have to admit we did very well with our spending for Christmas gifts. We went for something cute but small. I've also decided to work out a little, my energy is horrible, I'm always tired maybe because the little one is a sleepwalker but I'm hoping that will boost it up. Plus loosing some weight in the tummy area will help. I want to be able to fit in swim suit with no worries. Since I have always been a thin girl, I've never had to workout so we'll see how this goes.

My little lemondhead loved christmas.. This year we over celebrated christmas. We went over my mother and Limon's mom's then within the next couple of days we went over the babysitter, our friends and my brother's home. The other day he looked at me and said "Mom I want presents" (in spanish). Like I carry them in my back pocket for him to open. I told him he was crazy like George Lopez says "Tas loco".

Three

2010-11-28_17-08-52_117I can remember the day Adriancito was born like it was yesterday. I went into the hospital scared to death but not knowing how much I would fall in love with the little boy inside me. Six hours and no epidural later lil Adriancito came into the world. He was just as he is today, loving, always needing a hug and with strong character. It is official he has turned three.

In the picture above you can see his father’s super extraordinary frosting skills. Actually Mon forgot to ask the lady to put Happy Birthday on the cake so he decided to write it on his own. I think it didn’t work out the way he planned but lil lemon loved it.

PB280988

The past two years we have super celebrated lil lemon’s bday. We threw a huge party for his first year and his baptism and last year although we said we would not do anything we ended inviting a lot of people to chuck e cheese. Both ended up costing us a lot of moola.

This year we toned it down and just spend an afternoon at home with our parents and our little guy. We had a great time in good conversation and spent quality time with the birthday boy.

PB280981

Me and Mon both agreed as lil Adrian grows up we need to show him that we love him by spending time with him not by buying him the most expensive things or throwing the biggest party on the block. Being an only child can spoil a kid, we are determined to keep him humble.

I have to admit that I don’t want my baby to grow up. I want him to stay three forever. But I know he’ll get bigger and better. Becoming three comes with responsibilities. (lol). As he turns three I have to realize that he is no longer a baby and I have to begin to speak to him like a big boy. Enforcing daily manner rules more sternly and especially potty training and sleeping in his bed.

There however have been signs that he is ready for a brother/sister. He loves babies… grabbing them softly, kissing them constantly and that’s right giving up his toys for them. He also constantly says that we are taking home the babysitter’s newborn. At the time we are not ready or planning on having another child until in a couple of years. But I am glad that he loves to be around other children.

HAPPY THIRD BIRTHDAY LIL LEMON!!!

Fall Pictures Part 2

We are fortunate to have a friend that does photography as her full-time profession. She is a very nice and giving woman that moved here from New York with her family. We have been discussing a photo session since the summer time for family portraits but never got around to it until recently.

I chose the location of Grant Park for the beautiful scenery. There are so many different spots to take family portrait worthy pictures, the rivers, bridges, trees, beach and golf course.. (although I don’t think the golf course was going to be an option). The park is so beautiful.. I should shoot myself for not thinking about taking lil adrian there in the summer time.  I only had a few concerns on our photo shoot day.

  1. Weather – It was so cold that day = freezing

  2. Cloudiness – Around that time the sun was not coming out at all, The days during the week were so gloomy and dark.

  3. The trees –  By then all of the beautiful golden leaves on the trees had fallen and I didn’t want bald trees in my background.

First stop – the beach. It was really cold so we began with coats taking pictures then we took all our coats off. Lil’ Adrian was having the time of his life, chasing after birds and playing with the sand. He was having so much fun that he wasn’t looking but the ladies worked with it.

IMG_0627 IMG_0705 IMG_0706 IMG_7062IMG_0640

Second Spot – The bridges… which really is beautiful and because it was so cold no one was around so we had the place all to ourselves. The bald trees looked nice regardless.. lol

IMG_0751 IMG_0765  IMG_7123 IMG_0858 IMG_0830

Mary did a great job at capturing our little family moments. We aren’t exactly made for modeling in photos.. seriously I’m not the type of person that models when there's a camera around and am not photogenic at all. I knew it was going to be hard to get Mon to take a lot of pics cuz he gets restless. Although I felt so comfortable with her taking pictures and having patience with the little guy running around. She jokes around and talks to you as she’s taking the pictures which relax you more. Versus the awkward silence with other photographers. We were both happy with our end results.  I heart Mary Chuy Photography…

I have many many more pictures at home. So you want to see more just let me know.

P.S. I know I only said a couple pics but I couldn’t help it.. I love my family.

Fall Pictures

The last time we took family portraits I believe adriancito was (thinking, thinking, thinking) nine months old. Last year due to budget restraints we decided that there was no money for professional photos. But I have set up an appointment for this thanksgiving weekend to take pictures.. I am so excited to see our little family take pictures in the outdoors this next week. Currently I'm searching for options on clothing. I want a common color but I don't want to look too chessy with us all wearing matching sweaters... lol..

So I have looked up some tips for taking portraits

* Coordinate clothing

* Don't be afraid to be silly

* Always best to go casual

* Avoid Patterns

* Go when your child is well rested

I already know what my lil lemon is going to wear but me and mon is still undecided. Lets just hope that I don't drive Mon crazy the day of asking him the usual.

How do I look?

Do you like it?

Really tell me the truth?

Should I change?

Which one do you like better?

By the end he's so desperate to shut me up that I could be wearing a garbage bag and he'd say I looked good. Times like that I miss having my sis and mommy around, sometimes you just need a woman's fashionable advice. Wish us luck this weekend and also that lil lemon cooperates. I look forward to sharing my pictures...

Sleep Walker

Since before Adriancito was born, I haven’t been able to sleep the way I used to. Thanks to the pregnancy.. honestly the last 2 months of pregnancy are the most uncomfortable ever.. You can’t lay.. sleep.. sit.. comfortably at all.. I mean I used to LOVE to sleep. I would work crazy hours.. come home and sleep for about 3 or 4 hours and still sleep at night. For my baby shower I had a comment box for people to give advice to the new mommy to be (me). And the one thing that was evident everyone was trying to get across… sleep alot before you have the baby. I thought “I’ll be fine” umm soo.. the first time I slept through the entire night was when he was 8 months old and even then that was once and while occurrence.

To this day he still finds it hard to sleep. He rarely slept for long periods of time and still doesn’t. He slept well and through the night for a while and every once and while he would wake up. Butttt… recently we have been suspecting some sleep walking.. He’ll wake up and start walking and fall asleep in random spots of the house.. :( So even now I can’t sleep well because I worry whether he’s in his bed or not. Constantly getting up to check on him. My little lemon he’s so cute. This morning I was sleeping and my arm fell asleep and it never does that. So I open my eyes and there is adriancito laying on my arm.. sleeping.. he’s so cute I love when he snuggles up with me. Although sometimes he sticks to me like glue and we don’t exactly have a king sized bed.

My Point: I need sleep so Adriancito get your butt to bed and stay there..

PEPE UPDATE:

You may or may not remember that I blogged about a college friend of ours that had been diagnosed with cancer in January. I am sad to say that Pepe lost his battle with cancer on November 10, 2010. Limon and I are heartbroken with this loss. I can honestly say that even in his times of weakness he would always have a smile on his face and never hesitated in making sure we were comfortable and happy. It is so surreal that he is gone but it’s all in the lords hands. We continue to pray for his family. God bless them and guide them through this tough moment in their lives. He will be missed… :( (tear)

Happy Halloween

On Halloween eve we went to a birthday / Halloween costume party. My mother knowing his love for elephants bought him an elephant costume. Realistically you only have a couple of years to dress them up as any type of animal and they still look adorable. Believe me I'm taking advantage of it. His first Halloween.. he was tigger, the next year... chicken, and this year an elephant. I'm completely stumped for next year but we have plenty of time to figure that out.

So as I said before we went to a costume party and my lil lemon ended up winning best costume for the little children. What can I say? His adorableness just can't be beat. lol jk He loved his costume prior to Halloween he must’ve been running around the house with it on about 5 to 6 times. He actually wanted to put it on and pretend he was an elephant. Versus the Spiderman costume we originally bought him and he screamed if I even tried to put it on him

PA310945

The next day he sat out on the porch with me and Mon as we took turns watching the packer game and handing out candy to the neighborhood. Lil Adrian got scared of certain costumes and others he was obsessed with. We saw buzz light year, sponge bob, woody, giraffes, cows all kinds of animals and I even let him put the candies in the kid's bags. (it promotes sharing) We went trick or treating and were surprised as to how many people weren't giving out candy. Literally, two or three houses a block. If there's a happening spot to trick or treat please let me know because it was pretty sad. lol... Needless to say lil Adrian loved it. He liked seeing everyone's costume and lots of people commented on his little elephant costume.. I love my mister.. conquering hearts already. Not too soon though mamas not ready for another woman to be in his life....

Packers vs. Vikings

There aren't many sports I can sit through. Baseball seems long and boring... Basketball is semi-okay. Soccer... only in actual life not really on. But the one that I will go out of my way to watch is Football. It may be inherited from the family or not. But I like football..

I had been telling Limon that I really wanted to go to a Packer Game. I've always wanted to go but never have. I've taken trips to Green Bay with the family. Toured the stadium.. went during spring training... toured the hall of fame but had never been at an actual game. I would go all the time to visit my sister when she went to college there. I even started looking at tickets online to see if I could find a deal.

One day Mon calls me and says "guess where were going this Sunday?"Immediately I’m like I hope he’s not going to say something crazy!! Cuz he surprises me sometimes.. lol.  I'm like, "uh where?" and he tells me the packer game. I was so happy!! as was he of course. With Brett Favre now playing with the Vikings this would make an interesting game. Especially since the packers haven't beat him especially when playing in Lambeau.

PA240878

Brian ( Mon’s cuzinlaw) Leni (Mon's Cuz) and Me and Mon left earlier to look around before the actual game began. So we dropped off Lil lemon head and made our way to Green Bay. We got there and it was madness. People tailgating everywhere. When I say everywhere, I mean everywhere! Blocks and Blocks away from the stadium.. in the stadium parking lot. People drinking and inviting you to eat and drink with them. I kinda felt like a tailgate crasher but oh well what the heck. I had a blast. There were Vikings Fans and Packers Fans. There were Favre fans and Anti Favre fans. It was a good time. When we finally ate and made our way to our seats we were in amazement to see that we were so close to the field. With a perfect view of the touchdowns and the lambeau leap but still high enough to see what was going on.. on the other side of the field. We got lucky because Wisconsin weather in October is very unpredictable but usually it's super cold. I remember when we first moved in to our apartment on October 1st. It was in the 80's and the next year for mon's bday it was freezing. That day when we sat down for the game to begin at 7:00pm it was 64 Degrees and I was sweating!!!

PA240925

I knew from the beginning it was either going to be the best game or the saddest game to go to. I mean if the packers lost.. it would be a downer but if we won OMG it would definitely one of the best games of the season. So the game began and the packers had a lead. But they were catching up. We made mistakes but the Vikings did also. Our defense was on point but, our offense.. umm not so well. So we would sit down and watch. When an important play would happen everyone gets on their feet. OMG that place was electric... the chanting.. the high fives with random strangers after a touchdown. (Mon even high fived a viejita sitting in front of us.. it was so cute) All in all.. the packers won.

It was fun.. reading the signs and the people dressed so crazy.. lol. it was definitely a great experience. I hope there will be more to come..

Family Status!!

Beginning of November has begun.. summer seemed like it went so fast and fall as well. I can't believe it's already November... The little one is so close to turning three years old.. Little Adrian is hyper all the time. Remember when I said that I always wanted to be with him, well mommy time is much needed now. Especially when he's bouncing off the walls and I just don't have enough energy. So here are the family updates..

Potty Status:
Lil Adriansito has begun to potty training. His little sickness detoured our potty training but we are back and in full force. He does go pipi regularly and has gone popo in his potty. However, he's terrified of the BIG potty so it makes it hard to get him to go outside of home. I don't want to forcefully make him go in the BIG potty and make him think it's a punishment of some sort. So I've been trying to make methods to get his mind off the fear and on something else (ex book or treat). I have to work on that and it would make cleaning up a lot easier for me.

Learning Status:

He draws better, colors and tries to stay between the lines and uses the right colors for sesame street characters. The other day I walked into the room where he was coloring and found this..

I was so impressed... He counts 1-10 in both languages and can put simple puzzles together. He has a passion for puzzles which I think it's cute. He has about 5 at home but have discovered that their expensive. I'm trying to find some on sale. His drawing has also gotten better. He tries to draw the sesame street characters and other animals.

ABC Status:

He knows the whole alphabets and loves to learn. We'll be driving in the car and he'll point out all the letters from the stores we visit T-A-R-G-E-T... or B-O-S-T-O-N-S-T-O-R-E. That's a step up from the "UH-OH" every time I would hit something while driving..lol. My little co-pilot. I love it.

Limon Status:
My lemon head has been hard at work all summer with sports. At one point he was playing softball, baseball and soccer all in one week. He has also been working over time to try to bring some extra cash home. He does a lot for the family and honestly I don't know how he gets so much energy. His birthday just passed.. damn he's getting old. I seems like just yesterday he was turning 21.

Cristy Status

I'm obviously studying all the time. My classes this semester are very demanding so I've been working extra hard to keep up. I'm also up to the same old same old trying not to put to many things on my plate so things are as simple as possible for me. I've been trying to get out a little more.. reconnecting with a lot of old friends since mommy life had taken a toll and I felt too sheltered from the outside world. I've been cooking a lot this summer and trying to do more traditional mexican food so if you have any recipes for me please share..

All Better!

Answers are what we wanted and answers are what we got! After having difficulty setting up an appointment with our local Lakeshore Medical Clinic, I decided to break away from their facility. My OBGYN was from there and my smooth delivery experience is what really kept me with them. But honestly, I've had enough. They weren't cutting it for my little mister. So I looked up the obvious top notch hospital for children. (Children's Hospital). I saw they had a separate dermatologist department just for pediatrics and I was impressed. I set up an appointment and right away we went in. We went to their New Berlin facility and let me tell you!!! It was beautiful.

Oh!! And they made him put on the cutest little gowns. Maybe some of you super moms have seen them before but it was my first and they were so cute. I was going to take a pic of mister but the doctor came in right away. The doctor looked fairly young (which sometimes worries me) but you can tell that she knew what she was doing. She interacted very well with him and was pretending she was tickling him while examining him. She even spoke to him in the little spanish that she knew. It was cute. She told me he had papular eczema and that it can only be treated through medication. About five prescription later and after my little mister took them all. He is all better.

I left the office that day with a big burden lifted off my shoulders. I was really worried about my lil guy. The feeling that your doing all the possible to help them and he's still suffering.. feels horrible. Before that day I have never felt so fully pleased with my doctor visits. If anyone has a similar problem in the future I definitely recommend that facility.

Baby Blues!!

After many comments of not updating the blog, I have finally made my way to the computer to give you an update on my little guy. God bless my little mister! About a month ago he woke up one morning with what looked like mosquito bites. Then slowly more "mosquito bites" started appearing all over his body. Mon and me initially thought chicken pox. We went to the doctor and they said it was a viral infection. Then it evolved to dryness all over his skin. He scratches all the time and has a very dry scalp which I believe is from the rash. I have gone to three different doctors and they all say that it's a viral infection. I'm just so exhausted of going and getting the same answer. After bothering my doctor enough I finally got the number to a skin specialist. Wish us luck hopefully he'll have some better answers for us.

As for me, I'm disinfecting the house from top to bottom. Everything is getting cleaned with bleach. Mon is running baby errands at all times of the day. As for Adriancito the rash doesn't affect his personality that much. He's the same jumping all over the place and waking up with a smile on his face. So everyone pray for my little mister to get better.

Summer is here!!

I know what your thinking!!! It's soo hot outside and this little boy is carrying around his blanket.. well the weather is not stopping lil limon from carrying his blanket. School is out and I can finally relax and enjoy my little man. He is speaking so much and starting to say sentences. It's so hard to believe that at one point I was worried about his speech. Adriancitos past times include elephants, riding atvs (under parental supervision and very slowly) and waiting for the paletero.Lil Limon is definetly enjoying the summer. He loves the outdoors and this is the first summer that I have to worry about dirty shoes and clothes full of food and dirt.

His drawing skills are also progressing very well, he knows how to count and can recognize letters out of order. He's so smart.. ahh I love him. But seriously right now his brain is like a sponge and he picks up on things so quickly. All you have to do is say a word once and that's it he's got it. Well some words need repetition but it always seems like the ones I don't want him to learn he picks up very quickly. (Ex: Mine) He's still attached to me but I see signs of independence. A couple of months ago we took a trip to the dells which was very relaxing because I think I was at an all time stress high from school and home. It was nice to get away have housekeeping worry about cleaning and go to the pool. Also a couple of weeks ago we went to Minnesota to visit mall of america. We initally were planning on going to California but when plans didn't go through we decided on going to mall of america (something different). Adriancito seriously walked around the whole mall wrapped up in his blanket like above and considering it's almost a 6 hour drive adriancito did not complain at all about being in his car seat. So we have succeeded on getting away and relaxing. I love that the smallest things make him laugh just playing hide and seek with him and tickling him make his day. I don't know what I'm gonna do when those things don't light his face up with laughter anymore. We have nothing planned for the summer but we're ready to do it all and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Helping Pepe!

I am interrupting regularly schedule adriancito news to talk about a friend that is in need. Below is a copy of an email that I received regarding a friend that recently discovered that he has cancer. We have known Pepe and Gina for a while now and we were shocked when we learned about their situation. I figured the least I could do is post this and get the word out. I'm sure we all have confronted with a family member or friend that has faced a similar situation so if you can please help.

As you all know our good friend Pepe is fighting Cancer. The kid has been through a lot this year. He just had surgery to remove the tumor and they found more cancer cells afterwards. He will need to go under more chemotherapy.Meaning he will be battling this fight for a while.

Everyone is asking how they can help. Pepe is engaged to be married with Gina and has 3 beautiful children.
He just bought a house to build a future for his family.Lets help with contributions to give them one less thing to worry about.

We are opening a bank account later today so you can make donations.
If money is tight you still can help with your time.We all have our trade professions. If you can do anything to help with things around his house that would be awesome.

Reply to me on exactly what you can do and we can set up weekends when we can all work as a team to get this done. Please know a small donation or your time can go a long way to help a friend who has always been
there for us.

Here is the information on where to send your contributions.
Go to or mail checks to any M&I Bank. Pay to Jose Covarrubias Benefit
On the memo place 4873

While at the bank we had our first donation.
Ana, the person who helped open the account took the initiative to help our deer friend.
Now it's our turn.
Please give what you can.

Thanks,

Mando

p.s.
Forward to family and friends. God Bless.

Our prayers are with Pepe and his family. My thoughts are also with Gina having to worry about the doctor's appointments, supporting her husband and taking care of the children and bills are very stressful. She definitely deserves credit for all her work.

Dilemma

Right now I have about two weeks until the semester ends. And I still have not decided whether to take summer classes. Time is ticking, I have multiple papers due and have lots of things planned for this next month. And on top of that after more than a year of computer problems our computer finally gave out. So for the May I will approaching with as much patience that I have and am doing one thing at a time for the sake of my sanity. So my dilemma, I would like to take the summer off because my poor child needs to get potty trained and with me always running around the house and town like a crazy person all week long that doesn't exactly give him the best of routine and stability for it. And to tell you the truth I've been kind of avoiding it because I've heard it's hardest part of parenting. So as he goes to day care everyday (with the best babysitter ever) and sees two other children that have just been potty trained, he's still in diapers. He knows when he's going to go potty. He hides under the table, hides in the corner or goes in his room and denies anyone entry. The babysitter and I have both tried putting him on the potty but he's not having it. So if I take the summer off, it would be great, i could dedicate the summer to tackling this issue before life goes back to it's usual craziness during the school year. But the thing is want to go to summer school, i want to get a jump on my credits so that i can speed up the school process, finish faster, start my career, buy a home and ultimately have more children. I know it sounds a little weird (I feel a little weird writing this) but I a little irresponsible not going to summer school. I feel like a little lazy bum working part-time and not going to school when I know I can be in school and finish faster. I'm going to feel guilty that I can't do it all and even though i really want to. Mon's response to my dilemma is "stay home he's only going to be 2 once." but I'm still undecided...

Finally!

I am halfway through the semester and surprisingly this semester I don't feel like I am going nuts. Like I posted a couple of months ago I despise the time that takes away from my little one. But now I am more determined than ever to just finish school and get it over with. Little Adrian's personality is changing and changing. He has such a strong personality I can't believe it. Loves to watch television which I am growing to despise. I try not to put movies and tv on for him other than early in the morning so I can get ready for work. I don't think it's healthy for kids to watch tv all day and it teaches him bad habits. So right now tv is the enemy. Adriancito has branched out from Elmo now even though it's still his favorite. He likes other characters and has a thing for elephants too. it's cute. He's FINALLY picking up words. For the longest I've been subconsciously worried about his speech. It just seemed like other children were picking up words quicker. But this past month adriancito left and right has been repeating everything and learning things. It am sooo excited FINALLY!!! Right now he is two years and three months and growing fast.. I can no longer hold him for long periods of time. He's has evolved from his crib to his toddler bed and tends to wake us up every morning. "No night night mama". Now that he's picking things up I'm trying to teach him as much Spanish as possible. He'll learn English in school and speak it the rest of his life, it's Spanish that I'm worried about. I want him to grow up knowing the most important thing about his culture, the language! Although he still picks up words here and there from cartoons and family in English so far I have been quite successful with teaching him Spanish.

He received his fourth hair cut about a month ago and his curls are dying to come out. Like the last time, he cried like it was the end of the world. Me and mon are itching to get out of town to escape from the cold weather. So hopefully as soon as we have funds available we will be heading west. We will see....

Christmas Eve

Sorry I'm a little late on my updating the blog but school just started and this is the best time to catch up.

This year Adriancito really enjoyed Christmas for the first time he could open presents and hand them out to everyone. Although the night before Christmas eve there was a huge snow storm me and Limon decided to head to the mall anyway to pick up some last minute gifts. It worked out perfect because Adriancito slept through our shopping extravaganza. We actually ended up going grocery shopping, to target, to the mall and ate at Pizza Hut. It was nice to spend time together the three of us. It's funny because at Boston Store we saw my uncle that said he got my cousin for secret santa that's about Adrian's (Limon) size. So he had Adrian trying on all these sweaters and asking for his opinion. Long behold on Christmas eve guess so got Adrian? My uncle, Adrian had picked out his own gift the day before.. lol..

On Christmas Eve we started out the evening going to Limon's cousin's house (Leni). There we ate and danced and danced all night. There Adriancito danced all night around everyone and loved being part of the party.

Adriancito got a little carried away with the candy canes. As you can see in the picture above. Adrian and Tio Juan(Big Adrian's Bro)

Ari giving the thumbs up to Christmas

Everyone dancing and dancing.

Then ended the night at actually my aunt's house/our house. At my family's party we usually start out by singing posada. (When the men and women seperate into different rooms and sing a reenactment of Mary and Joseph going from house to house.) Then we stay up until midnight and someone starts the Secret Santa exchange by stating three things about the person and everyone tries to guess who the person is. When they reveal the person, they open their gift and then recipient start it all over again until everyone gets their present.

Mary and Joseph (my cousins) for the Posada!

Adriancito with his partners in crime.
Opening presents at midnight

When we finally went to sleep at 3:00 a.m an hour later Adriancito woke up in pain. Our Christmas eve was sleepless. Adriancito has been having teething issues this holiday break and has been experiencing lack of sleep and in pain. So that means everyone in the house has had lack of sleep and heartache for him. It doesn't help that he stayed up to open presents that night so his sleep cycle was off. But with me and mon back to work his sleep cycle is back to normal.

So sleepless the next morning we woke up to open presents amongst each other. Then off to spent it with family. We spent Christmas Day with both our families. I loved Christmas day this year so relaxed and just hanging around with immediate family. Of course, I love it every year but each year it just keeps getting better and better. I am so grateful to have such a happy and healthy child. A man that not only helps me but genuinely loves me for who I am. And parents and a mother in law that are always there to help no matter what, and I know they always have our best interest at heart. I love my life, I know I'm super super late but what the heck... Merry Christmas...
